What these totals include
The monthly total includes only speech and language therapy and OT sessions. The first year adds 12 months of those sessions, the annual EP follow-ups and each selected assessment or report cost once. The two-year total doubles recurring sessions and follow-ups but includes those one-off costs only once. It assumes unchanged prices and attendance all year, without inflation, cancellations or any unentered extras. Totals are rounded to the nearest pound.
If a report is already included in an assessment quote, do not add it a second time. Include VAT, travel and other agreed charges in your quotes as applicable. Check school holidays and the actual number of appointments; this is a budgeting scenario, not a care plan.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
For child DLA in England and Wales, DWP applies care and mobility tests, including extra needs compared with a child of the same age without a disability. A diagnosis alone does not establish entitlement.

In England and Wales, rules include a qualifying benefit, at least 35 hours of care, earnings, education, residence and overlapping benefits. Scotland uses Carer Support Payment; Northern Ireland has a separate claim route.

In England, the local authority must secure specified Section F provision, subject to the statutory exceptions. That does not automatically mean reimbursement for therapy a family commissions privately.

- Check the NHS route first — ask the relevant NHS service or GP what is available locally, current eligibility and referral rules, and whether any patient-choice route applies to the service you need.
- Ask about packages carefully — compare the total price with pay-as-you-go, and check cancellation, refund, expiry, and missed-session terms before paying upfront.
- Compare delivery formats — ask whether online, in-person, group, parent-coaching, or school-based work is clinically suitable and request a quote for each suitable option.
- Define the scope — confirm whether travel, observation, report writing, liaison, follow-up, VAT, and hearing attendance are included.
- Avoid duplicated assessment — ask whether recent reports can be used and what specific evidence gap a new assessment would address.
- Commission reports only where they address a real evidence gap — a private report may be considered in an EHCP appeal but does not guarantee provision or an outcome.
