Fill in the template

Open the document and work through each section. Be as specific as possible — include dates, professional names, and examples of your child's difficulties. Vague letters are easier to dismiss.

Gather your supporting documents

School reports, SEN Support plans, speech therapy or OT reports, GP letters — attach everything you have. Don't have reports yet? You can still send the letter and ask the LA to commission assessments.

Send it — and keep a record

Email to your local authority's SEN team (for Kent: sen@kent.gov.uk) and request a read receipt. Or post it Signed For. The 6-week clock starts from the date they receive it.
